Iota Iota Iota (Triota) was started in 1992 at the Metropolitan State College of Denver. The Greek letter "Iota" was selected for the name to represent the three goddesses Inanna, Ishtar, and Isis. It was created to honor and celebrate the academic achievements of students in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. In the years since, we have removed any academic requirements in place because we feel that there should be no barriers to joining this organization. Triota was founded upon the feminist values of egalitarianism, inclusiveness, and celebration of diverse experiences. We actively work to uphold these principles and all other tenets of intersectional feminism!
Are you a student majoring or minoring in a program run by the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies? If so, this is your formal invitation to join Triota. This organization serves as a safe space for all students in our program to come together, and we would be lucky to have you as a member! Being a part of Triota means having access to resources and support from within the WGSS department. Prior events we have held include an alumni panel for career support, feminist movie screenings, an alumni-current student book club, and weekly meetings for you and other WGSS students to come together to discuss topics important to us. Do you have an idea or event related to WGSS or our values that you want to make a reality? We are here to help!
Triota at OSU
The OSU Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Honor Society was founded in 2004. The first induction ceremony was held February 9, 2004.
Triota strives to maintain feminist values central to women's, gender and sexuality studies:
- Queerness
- Inclusiveness
- Diversity
- Activism
Triota also works to enhance the experience of students in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies as well as recognizing their academic achievements. For more information on our current projects, head over to @osutriota on Instagram.
Eligibility
Students who are majoring or minoring in a program run by the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies are invited to join Triota. Honors cords will be given to all graduating students who have majored or minored in a WGSS related program and have at least a 3.0 GPA in said program. Being active in Triota is also a requirement. Meetings are not mandatory but we do expect some level of involvement and presence in events and activities. If you are below a 3.0 GPA you are still invited to join. We try to avoid advertising ourselves as an honors society as we believe that inclusivity is our biggest goal. Email triota@osu.edu for information on how to join.
Zine Projects
The members of Triota collaborate on an annual zine project. The zines can be viewed for free below. Physical copies are available in the WGSS main office on a limited basis. Triota asks for a suggested donation of $5 to the Abortion Fund of Ohio in exchange for a physical copy of the zine.
