Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. Graduate Student Research Grant

The WGSS Department is pleased to offer the Graduate Student Research Grant to support the research activities and/or professional development of current WGSS graduate students. Two $2,000 grants may be awarded.

Examples of possible activities include: 

  • Travel to archives or to conduct fieldwork
  • Methodological training
  • Professional development opportunities that advance your research/academic profile

Eligibility: 

To be eligible, you must be a current MA or PhD student in WGSS. 

Required Application Materials:

  • Proposal (250 words minimum) detailing how you plan to utilize the grant funds
  • Detailed budget
  • Letter of support from your faculty advisor
  • (optional) Additional documents to support your proposal

The 2025 application has closed, but be sure to check back in early 2026 for the next application cycle!

Congratulations to our 2025 recipients!

Mick Min Hung Kuo, PhD student in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies

  • Mick is interested in how transness and gender nonconformity have been discursively mobilized to define what queerness means in Taiwan, especially since same-sex marriage was legalized in 2019. Currently, they are working on recent online anti-trans discourses in Taiwan through the lens of affect.
