Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Honors Program

Honors students typically begin their university experience via the Honors Office (292-5104) and then are referred to Women’s Studies. Honors students are advised by a designated faculty member who serves as the departmental contact for the ASC Honors Office. This faculty member does the initial intake for students to plan their academic program to assure meeting departmental requirements, and to assist with decisions about an honors contract or thesis. If students wish to pursue an honors thesis, the faculty member will assist students in identifying a faculty member to advise them and supervise the thesis. Students who complete a research thesis are eligible for graduation with distinction.

Honors students majoring in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies are strongly encouraged to pursue the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Honors Major outlined below. This curriculum will provide an intellectually challenging course of study for students seeking advanced learning and research. Students will enjoy smaller classes taught by highly respected scholars in the field as well as the opportunity to carry out independent research projects. Our classes are renowned for their socially relevant and academically rigorous content that demand heightened critical thinking skills. This curriculum also contains three concentration areas students can choose from during their course of study: (1) Difference and Diversity, (2) Culture and Representation, and (3) Political Contexts and Social Change. This specialized curriculum is ideal for students who plan to attend graduate or professional school sometime after the completion of their undergraduate studies.
