Wilderson, III is a professor of African American Studies, Drama, and Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Irvine. He is the author of two widely acclaimed books, Incognegro: A Memoir of Exile and Apartheid (South End Press, 2008; Duke University Press, 2015) and Red, White, and Black: Cinema and the Structure of U.S. Antagonisms (Duke University Press, 2010). He is the recipient of several awards, including the 2008 American Book Award (for Incognegro), the Hurston-Wright Legacy Award for Nonfiction, the Eisner Prize for Creative Achievement of the Highest Order, and the Maya Angelou Award for the Best Fiction Portraying the Black Experience in America.Professor Wilderson will be visiting campus for a public talk, titled "Afro-Pessimism and the Ruse of Analogy," on Wednesday, November 1st in Jennings Hall.There will also be a workshop for graduate students and interested faculty on Thursday, November 2nd in Hagerty Hall.
