Notable Faculty Accomplishments
Lyn Tjon Soei Len
- Lyn was selected by the College of Arts and Sciences for the Early Career Faculty Excellence Award, which recognizes outstanding performance in research, teaching and service.
- In spring 2025, Lyn was promoted to the rank of associate professor.
Dionne Lee
- Dionne was selected as a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow for her exceptional work in photography.
Treva Lindsey
- Treva received the 2024-2025 Diversity Enhancement Faculty Award from the College of Arts and Sciences. The award recognizes faculty whose research, teaching and/or service/outreach activities promote diversity and support a culture that embraces and exhibits inclusive excellence, community and openness.

The Dana Greenblatt Feminist Media Award recognizes undergraduate and/or graduate students who are conducting research in feminist analysis and production of cultural representations across visual media.

WGSS Travel Grants
The department is pleased to offer travel grants to our current WGSS graduate students to support their participation in conferences and other professional development opportunities. Each academic year, students may apply for up to $500 for domestic travel and $1,200 for international travel. We were happy to support 10 of our graduate students during the 2024-2025 academic year!

Mick Min Hung Kuo, WGSS PhD student
- Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA): GATA is the highest recognition for exceptional teaching by graduate students serving in a GTA role.
Nowshin Sharmila, WGSS MA student
- Mershon Center Graduate Research Grant: The Mershon Center provides grants for graduate research to support fieldwork or other research expenses that lead to a dissertation or master’s project.
Kate Roos, WGSS PhD student
- Global Arts + Humanities (GAHDT) Graduate Team Fellowship: The GAHDT Graduate Team Fellowship recognizes cross-disciplinary studies and brings together a cohort of graduate students whose projects align with the annual theme. The theme for the 2025-2026 academic year is Creativity, Intelligence, and Automation.
Lily Wolf, WGSS PhD Student
- American Association of University Women (AAUW) American Dissertation Fellowship: The fellowship provides funding to women pursuing higher education who have demonstrated excellent scholarship and helps offset scholars’ expenses during their final year of dissertation writing.

Undergraduate student grants and awards
Barbara & Si Sokol Award
Barbara and Si Sokol were longtime supporters of gender and sexual minorities in the Columbus community. Private donors generously created this undergraduate scholarship to honor the Sokols and support students dedicated to sexuality studies. Priority is given to students enrolled in the LGBTQ+ minor and who are members of university organizations that are open to all and advance the educational and professional needs of LGBTQ students.

Common Differences Writing Award
The Common Differences awards are given by the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies for the best student papers written about the perspectives, experiences and contributions of women of color. Topics from a wide variety of areas are welcome, including sexuality, the arts, literature, history, politics, economics, health, psychology, cultural studies, race and ethnicity.

Mildred Munday Scholarship
The Mildred Munday Scholarship is named posthumously for Dr. Mildred Munday, who was instrumental in the creation of the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies (then named Women's Studies) at Ohio State. The scholarship provides $4,000 for tuition and fees for WGSS majors. This scholarship is supported by individual donations from friends, alumni and current faculty and staff of WGSS. For the 2024-2025 academic year, we were able to award two students this $4,000 scholarship!

Patricia Cunningham Award
This fund is designated to provide scholarship opportunities to undergraduate students from Appalachian counties in honor of Dr. Patricia Cunningham, WGSS alumna, to further her pledge of increasing access to higher education for all. These scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and commitment to student leadership.

Robin Wiehm Writing Award
The Robin Wiehm Award was named posthumously for one of the first Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies students at Ohio State. It is presented annually for an outstanding undergraduate paper written for a women's, gender and sexuality studies class.
