A Community Panel Discussion
The WGSS department sponsored “Gender and Reproductive Justice: A Community Panel Discussion” on September 14, 2022. In the wake of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, panelists spoke about the wider context of feminist activism and scholarship on reproductive justice, both in the U.S. and transnationally. Speakers also addressed the specific contexts of abortion access in Ohio, and discussed ongoing community organizing and efforts to support everyone who may need abortion care.
The panelists took an interdisciplinary approach to the question of reproductive justice and brought in their research and organizing experiences across a range of geographic contexts in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the United States. The speakers were Bayan Abusneineh (Ohio State WGSS), Alyssa Bedrosian (Ohio State Spanish and Portuguese), Mason Hickman (Planned Parenthood Federation of America), Alison Norris (Ohio State Public Health) and Mytheli Sreenivas (Ohio State WGSS). The panel was moderated by Lyn Tjon Soei Len (Ohio State WGSS).
The event drew a wide audience from across the university. Audience members spoke about their own experiences and their visions for reproductive justice in a post-Roe moment.
