WGSS associate professor Dr. Mary Thomas and affiliated professor Dr. Tiyi Morris were recently profiled in Ohio State News for securing a $480,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation. Drs. Thomas and Morris are co-directors of the Ohio Prison Education Exchange Project (OPEEP), a project seeking to expand access to higher education in Ohio's prison system. The nearly half-million dollar grant was awarded to the Liberation at the Margins Collective, a subset of OPEEP aimed at building a degree granting program for incarcerated students at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. The grant will enable research and collaboration with incarcerated students and Ohio State leaders to develop pathways to degrees.
