Music has shown the plight of the oppressed as well as the depth of their resistance.April 4th, 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This anniversary provides a compelling opportunity to present the ways the battle for racial justice has been fought.Join the College of Social Work, the King Arts Complex, and the Sutton Entertainment Group to learn how music inspired and informed movements for racial justice across five decades in American history. You will also learn how the common themes of white supremacy, oppression, sanctioned violence African Americans and resistance impacted these time periods.Schedule for the event:6:15pm: Doors open6:45pm - 8:45pm: Music program8:45pm: ReceptionThe event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required.
