Life After Academics: Non-Academic Employment for Humanities Graduate Students

What other opportunities are out there for graduate students outside of the university? How can grads prepare for them? Recent WGSS graduates and 2017 Mellon/ACLS Public Fellows Dr. Haley Swenson and Dr. Amanda Rossie will be discussing employment outside of academia after graduation, preparing for jobs, the job market, and practical tips for applying graduate work as job experience in public and private sectors.

Dr. Haley Swenson received her PhD in WGSS in 2016. In addition to being a fellow, she is now an Editorial Director for the Better Life Lab with New America. Her work involves reporting and commenting on public policy, gender inequality, and work-life balance in media outlets. Learn more about her work with the Better Life Lab on their website.
 
Dr. Amanda Rossie received her PhD in WGSS in 2014. Also a Mellow/ACLS fellow, she works as a Policy Analyst for the National Women’s Law Center. Most of her published research and analysis focuses on areas such as income security and workplace justice. Learn more about her work with NWLC on their website.
 

They will be hosting a workshop for graduate students in the humanities on Friday, March 22nd from 10:00am to 11:30am. Following the workshop will be a lunch chat with our guests on how to apply ideas from the workshop and to brainstorm assisting students on their paths to employment.
