Professors Chaitanya Lakkimsetti and Vanita Reddy will lead a seminar on transnational feminism and academic censorship, which is informed by their recent and current work in those areas. Participants are invited to read a pre-circulated co-written chapter from their collection #MeToo and the Politics of Transnational Feminism (NYU Press, 2025). The volume takes a transnational and comparative feminist approach to #MeToo, focusing on the multiple ways that feminist voices from Argentina, Egypt, India, Pakistan, South Korea, the US, and the UK have pushed the boundaries of what counts as politics, justice, solidarity, violence, precarity, and vulnerability. It shows how an engagement with #MeToo allows us to extend and sharpen the empirical, theoretical, and methodological parameters of transnational feminist thought. Professors Lakkimseti and Reddy will also share insights from their new co-written project on academic censorship.
The seminar is open to all graduate students with interests in feminist and gender studies. Those with a focus on literary and visual culture, transnational feminism, Asian American Studies, critical ethnic studies, and postcolonial studies are particularly encouraged to attend.
