Estelle B. Freedman is the Edgar E. Robinson Professor in U.S. History at Stanford University, where she co-founded the Program in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her research has focused on the history of women, race, and social reform, including feminism and prison reform, as well as the history of sexuality. Her talk will be based on her recent book, Redening Rape: Sexual Violence in the Era of Surage and Segregation, winner of several prestigious awards, including the 2014 OAH Darlene Clark Hine Award for the best book in African American women's and gender history.
