On the program, students will learn about Sri Lanka’s history, archeology, environment, society, religion, literature, language, politics, gender, ethnicity and art. Of particular interest to WGSS majors and minors will be a Women’s Studies seminar taught by feminist scholar Carmen Wickramagamage on the cultural, social, and economic forces that inform women’s gendered status in Sri Lanka. Highly motivated students who can adjust to, empathize with, and reap academic benefits from intensive exposure to a significantly different social, cultural, and material environment are encouraged to apply.
