Randy Ontiveros is an associate professor of English and an affiliate faculty in U.S. Latina/o Studies and in Women’s Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park.

His recent academic work focuses on the creative traditions that sprang from the Mexican-American civil-rights activism of the 1960s and 1970s. He just completed a book entitled In the Spirit of a New People: the Cultural Politics of the Chicano Movement, which is now available through New York University Press.

He teaches classes on U.S. Latino/a literature, contemporary American fiction, the literature of the Chicano movement, comparative ethnic studies, literary history and methods, and film.
