The STEAM Exchange is a series of seminars that feature different speakers and thematic topics, hosted by the STEAM Factory. Their monthly interdisciplinary seminars bring together people from multiple disciplines and perspectives to discuss a single subject.

This month, the topic is "Drawing Boundaries," which will take place on Thursday, October 17th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at The STEAM Factory (2nd floor). To RSVP for the event, please submit through Google Forms.

  • Jennifer Suchland - https://steamfactory.osu.edu/people/suchland.15, Associate Professor in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, will discuss the boundary between the victim and criminal in the legal shifts for naming gender violence in the U.S., including domestic violence and sex trafficking, and the limits of empathy as an ethical guide for drawing the boundaries of justice.
  • Dustin Mixon - https://steamfactory.osu.edu/people/mixon.23, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, will discuss how drawing boundaries for political purposes (gerrymandering) can be reduced through math and games
  • Katie Walton - https://steamfactory.osu.edu/people/brutus.0>, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, will discuss how individual and organization definitions of “disability” draws boundaries around how people participate in community life, including receiving (or not) social service.
