Mary Helen Washington is a professor of English at the University of Maryland, College Park. She specializes in African American/African Diaspora, American Film Studies, Cultural Studies and African American Literature. 

Her lecture will focus on her newest book, The Other Blacklist: The African American Literary and Cultural Left of the 1950s (Columbia University Press, 2014).
