Community activist and artist Cherno Biko and OSU Professor Jian Chen will co-facilitate a participatory workshop focused on issues impacting transgender, gender nonconforming, and trans* communities. The workshop will focus on the marginalized histories and structural discrimination experienced by trans* people, especially those of us living at the intersections of marginalized racial, class, immigrant, ethnic, and gender identities. We will discuss how these issues shape the university classroom and teaching. Together, we will come up with ideas on how to remake the classroom into a trans* affirming space and, more broadly, a space that strives towards intersectionally based social change and justice.
