Andrew Carrington Shelton is a historian of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European art.  His work focuses on the social and political dimensions of art making, with a special emphasis on issues relating to gender and sexuality.  He is currently at work on a series of essays exploring the construction of queer masculinities in the visual culture of nineteenth-century France.
