Jackson of the University of Pennsylvania.As the Dean of Social Policy & Practice at UPenn, Dr. Jackson's research focuses on racial and class-based differences in contemporary urban enironments, including how urbanites themselves theorize and deploy those differences in everyday interactions. His research also involves examining and expanding critical race theory, as well as exploring how contemporary urban religions are being mobilized to improve health literacy and outcomes in poor and underserved communities. He is the author of multiple books such as Televised Redemption: The Media Production of Black Muslims, Jews, and Christians, and producer of multiple films including Bad Friday: Rastafari After Coral Gardens.For part two of the symposium, Dr. Jackson will be discussing multiple topics relating to race and public policy, including immigration, nativism, refugees, the census, neocolonialism, and imperialism. Joining the panel will be Dr. Hasan Jeffries (History), Dr. Trevon Logan (Economics), Dr. Townsand Price-Spratlen (AAAS), and Dr. Wendy Smooth (WGSS).The talk will begin at 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 11th in the MLK Lounge of Hale Hall.This event is hosted by the Department of Comparative Studies and The Public Affairs Multicultural Student Organization.
