Join the Center for Latin American Studies for the Forging Freedom: Afro-Latin American Independence Movements symposium. This event focuses on Black leaders and freedom fighters, and emphasizes the Black Latin American population that has been part of the history of the continent for centuries—not only as enslaved people, but as agents who fought for their countries’ independence.
The FREE Center, along with the Mershon Center, the Department of History, the Center for African Studies, the Department of African American and African Studies, and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, are co-sponsors of this event.
The symposium is free and open to the public, and lunch will be provided. Registration is required.
