The conference will open with a keynote address by author and former National Public Radio correspondent Anne Garrels about her most recent book, Putin Country: A Journey into the Real Russia.Call for papersThe Midwest Slavic Association and The Ohio State University (OSU) Center for Slavic and East European Studies (CSEES) are pleased to announce the 2017 Midwest Slavic Conference to be held at OSU April 7-9, 2017. Conference organizers invite proposals for panels or individual papers addressing all disciplines related to Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Eurasia, and Southeastern Europe. The conference will open with a keynote address by Anne Garrels about her latest book, Putin Country: A Journey into the Real Russia on Friday, April 7th, followed by two days of panels. Please send a one-paragraph abstract and a brief C.V. in a single PDF format to csees@osu.edu by January 20th. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to participate. Limited funding is available for undergraduate and graduate student lodging with preference given to out-of-state participants.RegistrationConference registration will open in late February 2017 for presenters. Please email csees@osu.edu.    Keynote Address, Friday, April 7th, 7:00PM-8:30PM in Sullivant Hall room 220 : Anne Garrels, an author and former NPR correspondent, will open the conference with a keynote address about her latest book, Putin Country: A Journey into the Real Russia.  Over her 40+ year career, Garrels has devoted much of her time to reporting on the former Soviet Union, Russia, and other countries in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Putin Country is based on Garrels' fieldwork in Chelyabinsk, Russia over a period of 20 years, experiencing and noting firsthand the changes in Russia politically, socially, and culturally. This keynote address is open to the public, free of charge. Anne Garrels will be on hand after the keynote address for a book signing.    Conference Day 1, Saturday, April 8th, 8:30AM-5:30PM at Mendenhall Laboratory: The first day of the conference panels will take place in Mendenhall Laboratory from 8:30AM to 5:30PM. A detailed list of panels will be published in late March.      K-12 Workshop, Saturday, April 8th: Topic and details to come soon!    Luncheon Lecture in Honor of Dr. Charles Gribble, Saturday, April 8th, 12:15PM-1:45PM at Mendenhall Laboratory:  The Resource Center for Medieval Slavic Studies and the Hilandar Research Library are sponsoring a special luncheon lecture in honor of Dr. Charles Gribble, who passed away in June 2016.    Informal Student Mixer, Saturday, April 8th, time and location to be announced    Conference Day 2, Sunday, April 9th, 8:30AM-12:15PM at Mendenhall Laboratory: The second day of the conference panels will take place in Mendenhall Laboratory from 8:30AM to 12:15PM.
